Perfectionism

Writing as a way to remember, uncover and heal

To feel all the pain

The internalised suffering of perfectionism

To understand where it comes from and what it means

Hearing it to better let it go

And stop it from defining who you can be

Not to blame but to help heal those who still carry it every day

The ants

Writing as liberation

Using the language of distance

Not to get too close

To feel all the sensations

Lifting each rock to find the ants

Antagonising?

Humour to lighten the pain

Unspoken because of shame

Perfection as the oppressor

Silencing the dormant candour

Ants tickling or dragons roaring

Uncertain of what the words may bring

Elastic Band

A frail little child

Not allowed to fail

Whose worth depends on her grade

Whose livelihood starts to fade

Too afraid to speak up

Carries the look of shame

Since validation comes with fame
