Delight collection for climate humans

Earlier this year, I had the chance to come across and read The Book of Delights by the award-winning American poet, Ross Gay. The book is a collection of essays written daily over the course of a year, celebrating ordinary delights in the world around us. As a climate human looking for ways to infuse more joy into my days, this gave me an initial idea:
‘Why don’t I start a delight journal?’
Chatting with a friend who happens to also be a fan of James Clear’s Atomic Habits, we realised that sharing these delights with a friend would help make the habit ‘stickier’. So I asked:
‘Do you want to embark on a #delightpact with me where we share daily delights with each other over the course of a month?’
‘Sure, let’s do it!’ She responded
And off we went! We started this sharing of delights in August and we loved it so much that we’re still sharing three months later! We realised that this first challenge essentially helped us build a delight habit. Not only we seem to have trained our brains to notice more, but we get an extra delight by sharing ours with someone we care about and by receiving theirs. A pure delight cycle!
It’s become a delight practice and we have become more aware of delights around us!
Here’s a selection of our delights including:
‘Morning yoga’… ‘Wattle season’…’Cycling to work on a crisp sunny morning’…’Community library’…’Colourful flowers and birds’…’Rosella chirping at dusk’…’Sunset in the snow’…’Geometry and light’…’Trees’…’Sunlight shining and caressing your face’…’Reconnecting with old friends’…’Getting the wordle in two’…’Sunset’…’Delightful morning run’…’Reading a good book’…’Putting your feet inside UGG boots’…’Callistemon and their soft leaves’…’The sound of laughing kookaburras’…’A gang of Gang Gangs’…
Feeling delighted yet?
What I am hoping is that you can embark on a delight journey yourself and notice the light and flowers around you, or whatever brings you joy really – I just say this because it seems to be a common theme in my delights!
I am having conversations with climate humans to gauge whether they’d like to share delights within a community of people wanting to infuse more joy in their lives. I’d like to avoid this drawing people to social media and its attention seeking tactics, so I’m looking for something more focused and deliberate – like a substack perhaps as part of this website for- our community to share our delights and be inspired by that of others if they wish to. If that sounds like something you would like to be a part of, you can express your interest in joining our community by clicking the ‘Join the #delightpact’ button below.
